Title: Very sad

not that many of the F1 crew will understand or even be aware but IROC (International Race of Champions) ceased operations last year as it couldn't find a sponsor

They hoped to get back on track in 2008 but yesterday announced that everything they own will be auctioned off and IROC is now officially dead

Mark Martin is a 5 time IROC winner, Dale Earnhardt, Tony Stewart, AJ Foyt, Al Unser Jr and Cale Yarlborough are all massive names to have been crowned International Race of Champions Champion

over 30 years of history is now gone

here is a video with some of the great action from IROC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaypd_snwHQ

and here is the sad proof of literally everything being auctioned - http://www.auctionlistservices.com/08iroccleanup/

That's a real shame, I remember Martin Brundle did it once. But I did feel that it's structure was too weighted to NASCAR drivers, and they have plenty of events to contest. The decline of other US series relative to NASCAR wouldn't have helped either.

Never mind we still have the other ROC.

Well, this member of the 'F1 crew' knows what IROC is, or was....

I remember IROC. I'm surprised that it was still in existance so recently, given the lack of world wide coverage and it's weighting towards american racing series, though admittedly, F1 teams wouldn't let their drivers race anything other thatn F1 after Bellof's death, and who could blame them. I guess their disappearance is a sympton of many race series and only a limited amount of sponsorship money.

I remember it back from the days of running all Pontiac Firebirds. Always cool to see guys from different series coming together.

I really wish someone would bring back the Fast Masters series.
