A highly controversial race, Max Neukirchner cruised away into a fairly comfortable lead. Carlos Checa managed to fight his way up the field and closed down a 4 second lead to catch Max on the last lap.
Checa tried an extremly stupid move into the last corner and took them both out, leaving Max trapped under his bike. He missed race 2. This left a stunned and delighted Lorenzo Lanzi as the winner after he mugged Troy Bayliss on the last lap.

Nori Haga finally woke up this year to take a pretty convincing win. It looked like Checa was going to take it in the early stages when he was hit by electronic glitches, perhaps some instant Karma for Race 1.
Bayliss closed up but was unable to pass Haga. Kiyonari put in a storming performance to finish 4th.
Points
1 Bayliss AUS 128
2 Nieto ESP 80
3 Corser AUS 72
4 Checa ESP 72
5 Xaus ESP 68
A great weekend for Bayliss then, he extended his points lead despite not being very competitive, and it looks like Ducati have avoided triggering their success ballast.
