Title: BTCC back at Rockingham

Rockingham is to return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship calendar in 2007 following confirmation that the Northamptonshire venue has been given the one remaining vacant date on the schedule.
The announcement means that Rockingham will play host to the BTCC for the second time – the only previous race having taken place in 2003 – and, perhaps more surprisingly, means that Silverstone misses out completely.
"We are delighted to be able to return to Rockingham," series director Alan Gow said. "Its unique track layout, up-to-date facilities and terrific viewing areas for the spectators all proved a great hit with the drivers, teams, spectators and sponsors when we raced there in 2003.
"In fact, a great many of our fans have constantly been asking me to take the BTCC back to Rockingham, so this is also for them. I'm sure it will receive great support and prove to be warmly welcomed back on our schedule.

How come Silverstone has been overlooked? I thought the final rounds of the 06 season were a success there...
It doesn't really matter where the races are held, they will be just as action-packed and controversial.

I hope it matches the last races they had at Rockingham.

Hmmm...
Silverstone - the home of Britishmotorsport : OVERLOOKED
Brands Hatch - 2 Rounds
Thruxton - 2 Rounds
Mondello Park - 0 rounds
Mallory Park - 0 Rounds
Wales - 0 Rounds...
safc_fan89 - December 15, 2006 01:08 PM (GMT)
Mondello Park is awful so I don't mind that...Silverstone...may be the home of British motorsport but I can't say I am devastated that it isn't on the calendar. Brands and Donington have better tracks.
The STIG - December 15, 2006 07:17 PM (GMT)
Have you even been to Mondello??? it's one of the most challenging tracks I've ever seen and certainaly fit to hold a round of a top level racing series.
safc_fan89 - December 15, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
It's too tight and twisty. It reminds me of the Hungaroring.
The STIG - December 15, 2006 08:52 PM (GMT)
on the other hand, The tight and twistyness does give you some incredible overtaking manovres. occasionally airborne ones, but incredible none the less!
Grandslammer - December 15, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
Never been there myself but must admit, from what I've seen on the box, I'm not too keen on Mondello.
Rather technical and doesn't flow well imo <no>
The STIG - December 15, 2006 10:10 PM (GMT)
*The STIG likes techincal circuits more than out and out speed ones (Pembrey is a good mix of both, surprisngly)
Grandslammer - December 15, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
Again imo,I think they over complicated Mondello when they extended the circuit.
Pembrey has much more of a smooth transition between the technical area,(Hatchets to Paddock crossing) and the fast sweeping sectors,ie,the rest of the circuit <thumbs>
The STIG - December 15, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
re: Pembrey, Paddock Crossing is possibly the last technical corner (although it looks like a sweeper, it is in fact 2 corners of different tighntess, which catches loads of people out) on the circuit, before the second hairpin and final 2 sweepers.
Re : Mondello. maybe a few more gentle corners would be a good thing?
