i was quietly optimistic about this coming Champ Car season but since the big Panoz annoucement it all gone a bit wrong

The Gelles Racing team did not take delivery of a Panoz and have shut their doors, Polestar are all over the place and Forsythe (one of the bigger teams) are not even sure they will run a second car

add to that the confirmation that Conquest have lost their main sponsor and will downsize to a one car effort at the most

A second Forsythe car would be a big boost

Champ Car likes to ignore its own problems and pick at the IRL's problems instead

the fact is that going into the 2007 season, the IRL has a much more stable package then Champ Car

all the big IRL teams are happy and the smaller ones are doing ok aswell

In Champ Car some of the big team owners are at the throat of Kevin Kalkhoven (Champ Car owner)

Gerry Forsythe is the one who has the most issues with KK and others have said they are not happy aswell

its a shame because Champ Car was looking good for a minute, but the longer they keep picking at George and IRL instead of dealing with their own issues then the longer the problems will continue

AJ Allmendinger is a driver who slipped through the net and he could have been a major F1 star

Could have been but F1 has gained 3 new stars in the last half a year or so anyway...

Allmendinger would have been a fourth, and probably better then the lot of them because he is racing at a higher standard

but he went for the big bucks of NASCAR racing

Yeah reading that Forsyth may only be running 1 car was a bit of a surprise to me. It was not so long ago that they were talking about running 3!
At the end of 06, the Champ Car series was looking very exciting indeed. With the new cars and the new tracks, I foresaw a prosperous year. FF a few month and things don’t look as rosy.
One positive thing to look at is that if Kevin Kalkhoven and Tony George refuse to re-unify the series, then maybe one of them going bust will effectively achieve the same result.

And if it had to be one, I would prefer it to be CC!

despite alot of people not liking TG, he does make better decisions then KK.

TG and Brian Barnhardt are doing a cracking job to sort out the IRL and Champ Car needs to do the same, and fast

I am sure that would be a big upset to Panoz, after designing the new car.

I think the standard of driver is higher in IRL than it is in CC. Im sorry to say it, but people like Speedy Dan and miss Legge would struggle to get a ride.

Dan Clarke I think did ok but Legge was a massive flop
