Title: Verstappen gives up on Champ Car

The Saint - February 21, 2007 02:19 PM (GMT)
Jos Verstappen has given up on chasing a drive in Champ Car after being forced to wait for a decision from the teams he has been talking to.

The former Formula One driver had been linked to deals with Forsythe and Minardi Team USA in particular, but he feels that he has missed out because he wants to be paid to race.

"We've been working on this for three months now and we're tired of waiting," Verstappen told his personal website.

"There is interest from a couple of teams but nobody is making a deal. We haven't heard from the interested teams so now it's over for me."

Verstappen was hoping to land a drive in the series as it prepares for a race at Assen in the Netherlands later in the year.

"It's a shame for everybody," he said. "I know for sure that the race at Assen would be sold out in no time. Just look what happened at Zandvoort with A1GP."

Verstappen pulled out of A1GP just days before the Dutch event, when he fell out with his team over financial issues.

"Apparently it's very hard to find a seat if you want to be paid for your work," he added.

"If they leave you in the dark for months the disappointment is big and I don't feel like doing it anymore.

"I don't want to keep my fans in the dark for a long time again and then cancel at the very last moment. They don't deserve that."

it doesnt help matters that Gerry Forsythe is STILL not decided on whether he is to run a two car team

Jos was after that seat but it appears now that GF is gonna take his recent disagreements with KK to a new level

Doornbos is still rumoured to be in with a shout though

The life of an IRL driver seems to be a lot less secure than a F1 driver. One minute they are in the series the next they are not.
Unless you have boobies of course!

When I say IRL, I should have said OPEN WHEEL.

ah ok!

i get you now!

just making sure you didn't think IRL (Indy Racing League) and Champ Car were the same thing!

"It's a shame for everybody," he said. "I know for sure that the race at Assen would be sold out in no time. Just look what happened at Zandvoort with A1GP."

Surely he doesn't expect to be given a seat just for that? Is Jos really that big in Holland? I'm surprised if so because he's never really achieved much.

Jos was never going to get a seat that doesn't exist!

Gerry announced ages ago he was running 1 car only for Paul Tracy.

rumour was though that KK was going to give Gerry some extra funding to run a second car but Gerry isnt interested

KK has already bailed Conquest out aswell but the car count for Champ Car is starting to get worrying but he won't be paying for many more cars
