WSR News: QUALIFYING REPORT - BRANDS HATCH - ROUND 1

Team RAC's Colin Turkington firmly stamped his authority on the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title race as he secured pole position in his brand new WSR built BMW 320si E90 for the opening round of the season at Brands Hatch tomorrow.

Taking the front row grid slot, by just 16 thousandths of a second, the young Irishman posted a time of 49.532s and was delighted to repay his WSR mechanics for all the hard work that has taken place over the last few weeks in getting the car to the circuit on time.

On securing pole Colin said: "Qualifying went extremely well as it was a bit of an unknown beforehand. Today is only our third day with the new car and I'm still getting to grips with everything following the shakedown on Monday. It's been g etting better each session today and we've been making good progress with it all coming together for qualifying. It was very close but we got the set-up right and the ultimate lap."

New kid on the block, Tom Onslow-Cole, placed the second of the Team RAC BMW's in an impressive seventh (49.762s) putting him right in the mix for the first of tomorrow's three races. Commenting on qualifying, Tom said: "It went well and I'm really pleased with where we ended up. It was quite a struggle with the amount of cars on the circuit. I feel that I maybe didn't get the best from the car but even so I'm still pleased with my starting position for tomorrow's race."

WSR team principal Dick Bennetts is delighted with the performance of brace of BMW's. He added: "It was fantastic! I'm very pleased for all the guys on the team considering all the effort they've put in recently building these cars. Since testing at Pembrey earlier in the week, there have been a lot of long hours an d head scratching but we're moving in the right direction with the set-up of the car. For Colin to get pole and Tom to get seventh is better than I could have hoped for."

The races tomorrow will be interesting. With 26 cars on such a short, tight track, there is bound to be trouble...:D

The STIG - March 31, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
You haven't seen what happens with 28 cars on a short tight track called Pembrey have you?

Re-defines the word "Mayhem"

Pembrey is longer than Brands Hatch Indy I thought...it's probably going to be worse at Knockhill than Brands, now that I think of it. Things are often pretty chaotic there.

Eoin Murray out of the Brands races. Shame, he seemed to be going well.

Pembrey is 0.2 miles longer than Brands.

The BTCC races at Pembrey were highly entertaining <thumbs>

i'm watching it now on Setanta Sports 2

loads of action, i won't give any the results though

Well I can't watch it as it's moved to Setanta from Motors, but it's disappointing that it's not even on ITV1. That won't help the viewing figures.

safc_fan89 - April 1, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
No...their coverage I think has left a lot to be desired, once again. They played their F1 trick...take a break when there is a safety car...and miss the restart!

That would explain why I couldn't find it <doh>

With the video having failed to record the live coverage on ITV3,I had to settle for the extreme edited highlights version :(
Couldn't have been more than 20 minutes worth I guess <think>
Still, nice to see nothing has changed on track though <whistle> <busted>

back to the bad days of the BBC's attempt. Time to let them re-deem themselves now they don't have to spend out so much on football?

[BBC have lost the FA Cup to Santana and ITV]

ITV's coverage was crap, it was better last year, and that wasn't great either! If they are going to ship it onto a digital channel, surely they could extend it to a 2 hour programme...funny how the BSB programmes were normally 3hrs long last season. They aren't committed to showing it at all.
