Title: FIA GTs Silverstone May 6th

gillesno27 - April 18, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
Our tickets have arrived, can't wait for this one! Anyone else fancy it? New GT4 championship and 90s revival series for this meeting!

Grandslammer - April 18, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
<think> Haven't decided yet,did the three days last year <cool>

someone - April 19, 2007 09:52 AM (GMT)
Hope to be there for at least one of the days, not anywhere else and not far for us.

gillesno27 - April 19, 2007 12:36 PM (GMT)
Been virtually every year since the old Karcher BRP series went to Donington in 1995, can't wait! Shame it's only a 2 hrs race though, the 4 hr ones used to give more time for dramatic fight-backs. Hope the Lamborghini can reproduce its recent winning form, shake the order up a little!

someone - April 19, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
Looks like we'll be there raceday only...

Grandslammer - April 19, 2007 04:25 PM (GMT)
Only two hours <blink> ,it was three last year <think>
It'll be turning into a sprint next year <whistle>

someone - April 24, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
Looks like it should be a good meeting.... :)

John - April 24, 2007 03:25 PM (GMT)

Yeah, I suspect the GT1/GT2 races are having to shorten to allow the GT3, GT4 and GT90s Revival series time to race! Shame but I'm excited nontheless!

I know but the chance to see the class of '97 will be awesome! I miss the sound of the BMW V12 from the F1 GTR!

Hi folks, me and the missus are hoping to go along to this (depending on our finances) and as we havn't been to an FIA GT race before I was wondering if you could tell me what you get with entry.

I'd like to know things like this:

Do you get assigned seats in one of the stands?

If so, would it be likely to be in the stand along the pit straight, or could you get placed anywhere round the circuit?

Do you get to wander around different parts of the track and pitlane?

Where is the best place to camp?

etc etc...

I would appreciate as much info as you could give me!

Cheers
JB

From a non spectator, general admission entry tickets,(which are those on sale),allow access all round the circuit, including the paddock area and any grandstands that are open,(except the BRDC one, which is reserved for errr,BRDC Members only <doh> )
Listen out for any pitlane walkabouts (only official times)
Camping can be a thorny issue,(not very pleasant btw <blink> )...
Sometimes,Public camping is allowed on the infield area, depending on the meeting(Britcar meeting for example) and assuming a weekend ticket has been purchased.
Don't think this one is though <think>
List of local campsites HERE <sleep>
Must admit it's alot easier (and cheaper) being a Marshal <whistle>

JJB-Ferrari - April 29, 2007 11:58 AM (GMT)
cheers Grandslammer, thats great. Having grown up in a tent I quite like camping so wouldn't be worried about a couple of nights in a field. General admission sounds good (especially for the price - £20 for all that is great value). Think I'll def try and get down for this.

gillesno27 - April 30, 2007 12:27 PM (GMT)
We have been fortunate to get free tickets for this. At Race Retro they were offering a free pair of tickets for any Silverstone event (bar a coupla obvious ones!) when you purchased an advanced ticket for the Silverstone Classic, which themselves were reduced. We bought weekend Classic tickets and thus are off to FIA GTs and LMS for free. Will see you chaps there!

Yeah it seemed too good to be true but as I have my FIA GTs ticket in my pocket and I didn't pay a penny, it appears to be true!

Anyone off to Donington the next day? My first double meeting of the year...I'm beside myself with excitement!

JJB-Ferrari - May 2, 2007 06:02 AM (GMT)

Well good! That Lambo sounds so special. Not a classic race, but a good meeting nevertheless. Shame about the 90s Revival race, I was really excited about seeing a McLaren F1 GTR in action after so long...

it was a superb sounding engine, F1-ish. The Corvettes sounded great as well but more brute force than elegant Italian singing!

The 90's revival was disapointing and we didn't stay for race 2 (did the Marcos race in Race 2?) but the GT3 races were awsome IMO and I even enjoyed the Mustang/BMW/Aston battle in the GT4 races.

My first motor-racing meeting and I well enjoyed myself as did the missus (who loves F1 but is a stranger to most other types of motor sport). Was gutted that no general admission were allowed in the pit walk but other than that, absolutely brilliant. The noise blew me away!
