Family Guy is a vastly inferior version of The Simpsons.

GV Legend - April 20, 2006 12:05 PM (GMT)
Vastly inferior, dont make me laugh.

I havent laughed at a simpsons episode for as long as i can remember, the jokes are old and stale.

Family guy however has me in stiches when ever i watch it.

OH YEAH GIGGIDY GIGGIDY.

Yeah, and a complete rip-off too, I mean making the dad stupid and fat was really original <doh>

The Simpsons is the best...

Too bad it had to completely steal the premise of another show <doh>

GV Legend - April 20, 2006 12:14 PM (GMT)
The dad is a pointless side gimmick in family guy the real laughs come when you are watching stewie or brian. The whole point of the show is the interactions between those two.

No, never watched it, I only appreciate original comedy...

GV Legend - April 20, 2006 12:18 PM (GMT)
there is very few shows that are origional comedy!

the simpsons basicaly works on a disfunctional family basis right.

god i hadnt seen that before simpsons came out! how many other comedy shows have got laughs that way?

What was The Simpsons based on then???

Sorry, but Family Guy is *too* close to The Simpsons to be considered different, it annoys me when other people's ideas are stolen and then they start taking away the fans of the original show...

GV Legend - April 20, 2006 12:30 PM (GMT)
I never said the simpsons was based on anything i questioned weather the idea of having a disfunctional family to get laughs was original. for example steptoe and son were disfunctional and came long before the simpsons.

I hate to burts your bubble but even the best stand up comics take influences from others so you will find it hard to find a comedy show that is completly original.

so what if the writter took a formular that worked and used it to create his own show. if family guy was too cloesly based on the simpsons then matt groening (sp) would have sued set mcfarlend(sp) for stealing his intelectual property.

so what if is similar if it is funny then ill watch it. and in my opinion the writting in family guy is much funnyer than in the simpsons.

Morpun94 - April 20, 2006 12:32 PM (GMT)
:) i've opend a can on worms here today!

timmadigan - April 20, 2006 12:46 PM (GMT)
Of the 3, it's the Simpsons. It may have gone downhill recently, but it's track run is by far the best.

Futurama was/is funny, but couldn't sustain itself with new ideas after a couple of seasons.

Family Guy isn't good. If it wasn't for Stewie and Brian, two of the funnier cartoon characters on TV, it would be just awful - those 2 characters are wasted around the rest.

Outside of those 3, SouthPark is the only major animation to stay innovative - primarily since it's done using easy computuer animation, it can hit current events quickly (they can do new episodes in 2-4 weeks). They can be crude, but it's usually for a specific reason/point and not just for a cheep laugh.

I agree with the rest of the cast in family guy being a bit flat, but stewie and brian are so good that they pull the show out of a bargin bin up to the top shelves.

im my opinion many of the characters in the simpsons are very flat too, marge and lisa having limited use apart from nagging bart and homer for example.

safc_fan89 - April 20, 2006 12:59 PM (GMT)
I've never watched the Simpsons regularly, but because there are hundreds of episodes they aren;t repeated often. And they are mostly great. I don't know which are the newer ones so...:)

GV Legend - April 20, 2006 01:02 PM (GMT)
Arnt repeted often?

yes maybe on sky but for those of us who arnt privalidged enough to have sky you get stuck with the same three or so seasons and mybe 4 different halloween episodes.

safc_fan89 - April 20, 2006 01:05 PM (GMT)
I seem to watch it about once a week because normally at the time it's on I'm busy.

If you complain about the amount of repeats...its the same for every popular program!

u4coffee - April 20, 2006 01:07 PM (GMT)
Love Family Guy :)

Dare I mention American Dad? <blink>

In fact, the Simpsons picked up on this when they showed an episode featuring a bunch of Homer clones, one of them was the dad from Family Guy.

simpsons isn't as good as it used to be - like just about everything else in life. :)

still out in front with all those great moments though.

Now, now. There are lots of good characters in the Simpsons: Flanders, Sideshow Bob, Krusty, Principal Skinner, Smithers, Burns . . .

I'm less familiar with Family Guy, so I can't really compare.

Morpun94 - April 20, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)
your all forgetting the two greatest charachters in the simpsons, Professer Frink, with the stabbing and the jumping and the ow ow ow, and Comic Book Guy, oh a sarcasm detecter, thats a real useful invention.

drlips999 - May 7, 2006 04:49 PM (GMT)
I know this is an old pole, but it has to be Family Guy for me followed by American Dad and then The Simpsons!

stradlin22 - May 7, 2006 06:03 PM (GMT)
SIMPSONS!!! :)

drlips999 - May 7, 2006 06:09 PM (GMT)

The Simpsons is the best...

Family Guy series 1 episode 2 ... then one with Williams Shatner in it, now if you don't find any of that funny there's something wrong with you ... that was the episode which got me into FG and I loved it ever since!

and the invention from the cat burgular episode, the house that gets up and run around the corner, then collapses and bursts into flames and then the comment " Obviously real people won't burn as quickly"

Proffessor Fink is a genius!
