Title: Fall out boy
Morpun94 - April 27, 2006 10:32 AM (GMT)
I'm two quarters and a half down...
GV Legend - April 27, 2006 03:21 PM (GMT)
Hmmm i havent been convinced by fallout boy yet, they have some catchy tunes but nothing that keeps me interested for a whole song.
As for your first choice in your poll, OI how dare you the arctic monkeys rock, i have seen them live 3 times and most of their tracks (not just the album but the ep's and unreleased demos as well).

If britpop was over 10 years ago why was oasis's last album a number one, why is richard ashcroft still able to sell records to kids.
Arctic monkeys may have got a bit to much hype but they are a fresh sound and have injected life into an otherwise sterile pop chart!
Morpun94 - April 27, 2006 03:28 PM (GMT)
i actually dont think the arctic monkeys themselves pissed me off. i think it was JO whiley. She declared them the saviours of rock music and has been bleating on about how wonderful they are. To be honest i've had to listen to the album with an open mind (radio show and all) and i have found them to be wanting in all major departments. just my opinion, but i dont think they are that good. nd they are definatly overhyped.

i saw them do a small gig in manchester in nov 2004, and at the time the chart was full of busted and mcfly, and these guys brought something different to the table, they may not be the best musicians but their music is catchy and works well at gigs and in clubs and thats what counts.
They will never be one of the music greats but the are a good band which has captured the imagination and i say good on them.
stradlin22 - April 27, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
Of what I have heard of them they have a kind of New Found Glory, Bowling for Soup sound only a bit less poppy
Musically, I don't see anything amazing, and they fall into the Blink 182, Sum 41 mould of appealing to teenagers who think they know something about punk rock music

Talking of bands who are good live, I went to see Green Day last year at the Plymouth Pavillions which is a really small venue and they were absolutely fantastic, just about the best live band I have ever seen. With only a couple of thousand people in the crowd, the atmosphere they built up was electric. The supporting act however were shite. Who were they... New Found Glory. We were all chanting new found shit by the end, and they got bottled off stage.

New found glory are a kiddies band
Green Day used to be a good band but they have been bought by the monster that is commersialism and are now a crappy pop band
GV Legend - April 28, 2006 12:19 PM (GMT)
For greendays ultimate best stuff check out 1039 smoothed out slappy hours, it was released on the californian punk lable lookout! records. It is a collection of their very early Eps and is far superior to the popular green day classics from albums such as dookie and warning which although they were good albums dont come close to what greenday were doing pre 1994. Also a great listen is the kerplunk album was a bit dissapointed that the only track from kerplunk to make it onto international superhits was welcome to paridise.
Wasnt a big fan of american idiot, a feel good record yes but a little too popy for me, sounded like they were trying to cater for the teeny bobbper busted fans a little to much!
By the DK's did you mean the dead kennedys?
Also good bands are glass jaw, ganggreen , fenix TX and slaughter and the dogs

Maybe it was the venue, I don't know. Plymouth was a really small intimate gig and it really worked. I happened to like American Idiot. They had a much more grown up sound then on previous albums and I've now got past the stage where music has to sound crap for me to class it as intelligent and challanging. Sorry to anyone who likes their music to be an aquired taste, but having to listen to something 50 times before it sounds normal is not my bag anymore. Life's too short. Why overintellectualise anything? Greenday didn't sell out in my opinion, they made good music and so what if more people woke up to their stuff? Being successful and reaching out to people isn't selling out now is it? If you want to be challanged by music, and really be able to lord it over others, go out and by "Ode to Hiroshima" and then listen to it all the way through without turning it off. Imagine 50 sets of fingernails scraping blackboards, all at the same time and at different speeds and you're there.

i got a little annoyed with morphun yest cos he said that britpop was dead and living in manchester im surrounded by it and love it.
Pannywagon - April 28, 2006 12:53 PM (GMT)
The thing that irritates me more then most others is pompous pricks (usually music journalists) who are utterly vaccuous and contemptable at the best of times pointing the finger at this band or that saying "they sold out," "commercialism!" etc etc ad nauseum. They are a band, they work in the music industry, it is a commercial world we live in. They probably got together (unless a boy/girl band) as mates, worked hard, came good and now are enjoying the benefits of that. That is life. Needless to say, most musicians have more skill in their big toe then most journalists (music or otherwise) have in their entire body. Rant over.
<grrr>
Oh just remembered....anyone been watching that program on the BBC about the paparazzi? The boss of Big Picture, that Aussie. He is utter scum, and if I ever came accross him in a club he'd have his Ferrari shoved very firmly where the sun don't shine!

i just feel (and alot of others feel) that their sound has changed to sell more records
I have sent Green Day three times, the Dookie tour, the Nimrod tour and last year on the American idiot tour
The AI gig was full of kids with mums and dads and none of the guys from the first two gigs, the sound was weak, the songs were more like a glorified version of N sync only with guitars and drums. They played very little from the previous albums (because most of the children wouldn't know them) To be honest, it was the biggest load of sellout rubbish I have ever heard, they have changed their image to appeal to the pop audience and this has alienated their original real fans.
Some alternative bands can achieve commercial sucess without changing their sound or image but Green Day are a totally different band.

Last year at Leeds
The Pixies blew everyone else off the stage
Real legends of rock music, split up for 13 years. re-form and still sound a million times better then most of todays bands
GV Legend - April 28, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
I agree with you stradlin thier sound has changed, but im not sure they are selling out, they are expanding their sound to appeal to a wider audience. They saw a market created by the rubbishness of busted and used it to get a broader fan base, its good sense if you ask me.
I dont like thier new stuff as much as their old but all bands get to a point where you no longer rnjoy the music they are writting.

but this has alienated their real fans and drove them away, they have soldout in every way possible

I would asume that DK is the Dead Kennedys
time for a holiday in Cambodia
GV Legend - April 28, 2006 07:21 PM (GMT)

That was one of the problems i had with st. anger it was the first album in my opinion that sounded like they may be loosing it a little, all the others have been pure gold all the way through.

can't wait for the new album
