Title: Huge crash for Viso!
Speedworx - June 30, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)

He's lucky to be alive. Escaped serious injury.

That was a very nasty accident, I haven't seen it yet but alot of people have already described it as the worse they have ever seen.
A very lucky chap indeed, I hope he makes a quick recovery.
Just shows how dangerous motorsport is no matter what formula you are competing in.

The fire extinguisher didn't look impressed!
<roflmao>

Ouch! Just as I was getting over the Kubica crash! Is he OK?
safc_fan89 - June 30, 2007 05:48 PM (GMT)
No serious injury, according to Autosport.
Paul_Murtagh - June 30, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
That actually left me shaking when I seen it. I would say it was as big an accident as Kubica
f1chick - June 30, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
oh crap thats a nasty one

Marco Campos had a similar accident at Magny- Cours in F3000 in 1995
He wasn't as lucky <no>
safc_fan89 - June 30, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
That down to luck, or are the cars stronger now?

The car stood up well,it's just one of the risks associated with an open cockpit alas
The STIG - June 30, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
And on the last lap too! How unlucky is that?

I think it was luck.
Campos's car landed upside down with his head on the concrete wall. That is an accident I don't believe will ever be survivable and is just bad luck if it happens.
safc_fan89 - July 1, 2007 07:43 AM (GMT)
There is only so much you can do to improve safety. In single seaters, the driver's head will always be exposed, but that is a risk they have to be willing to take.

Oops - I saw the thing saying lap 41 out of 41 and...
Forgot that FOM (who do the pictures) are rather backwards!

If you said you were referring to the Campos crash, then you'd have been spot on <think>

Thats one lucky lad <yikes>
Theres nothing one can do to protect or plan against a crash like that. Landing upside down on the edge of the wall, its only luck that decides whether or not you land on your head.
However, close on the heels of Kubica's accident, it does raise the issue of how to stop the car getting airborne on hitting the kerbs and grass <think>
AndyW76 - July 2, 2007 09:44 AM (GMT)
Notice how bent the cockpit looks when he stops.
