Title: Minardi win

Speedworx - July 1, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
Robert Doornbos wins at Mont Tremblant. Great race in dry/wet conditions.

I believe Robert and Bourdais share the series lead.

Impressive result for Minardi... Well Done

I just hope Stoddart dosen't get above himself and talk about going back to F1... it's been refreshing not to have to hear his latest rant...week in week out...

Steelstallions - July 2, 2007 03:04 AM (GMT)
I would have loved to have seen some fluke F1 race in which Minardi won...................but not when Stoddart was in charge.
He was and probably still is a real whinging git, and the appeal of the underdog Minardi was gone with him at the helm.

Morpun94 - July 2, 2007 10:45 AM (GMT)
Nice. Minardi team USA rock

He seemed very happy in the post race interview. Hopefull yhe will be good for CC and we won't see the old a-hole Paul who tries to hold a series hostage.

Good win by Rob! <thumbsup>

ppparkinson9 - July 2, 2007 06:45 PM (GMT)
Sebastien Bourdais was a bit unhappy with Doornbos though:

Is that justified?

Good to hear the Minardi name mentioned as a result of winning for once! F1 misses them IMO.

Amen to that!!!

Stoddart leaving F1 was a great thing for the sport and settled the storms down and hopefully he won't come back.

However congratulations to him and Minardi on their great victory, nice to see them win something.

utter rubbish. Stoddart was an absolute genius, and gave a real personality to the faceless image of F1. It would be a pleasure to have him back...

If Stoddart were to come back to F1 the political storm would brew again and the split would be back on within a matter of days.

All the teams and F1 as a whole are better off without him.

He is more suited to racing in the US so he should stay there and I wish him luck.

Seb just whines when drivers don't automatically give him his way.
I can't wait to see him in a back-marker STR and have to give way to everyone else. He'll spend his F1 career just seeing the blue flags :D :D :D

Bourdais is a whiny bitch.... <hitwall>

Thank you, Fiorano, for that incredibly insightful comment. Bravo! We need more of those.

DC 19, just what do you mean by, "He is more suited to racing in the US?" I read these types of statements and I'm always baffled by it. Of course, I'm just a thick American.

What makes an a**hole more suitable for racing in the US?

The picture I seem to get from these American motorsports is that they are alot more relaxed than F1 and more enjoyable to take part in as a competitor.

And life is maybe less complicated and expensive, although I am sure there are still some politics involved. He probably gets on alot better that the people who run champcar than Bernie and Max and that is probably understandable.

Stoddart was fighting a losing battle in F1 with a budget nowhere near big enough to be able to compete and trying to constantly get the rules changed to favour him and his team's more small budget and sounding like a broken record all the time.

I only follow the American motorsports via autosport, I don't get to watch any of it so don't have a full understanding so forgive me if my opinions are a bit flawed.

flood1 - July 4, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
That's an excellent understanding of American motorsports. You've explained your position very well.

Stoddart is a cowboy like many Americans. We are very blunt to a fault, and don't talk around the issues but get straight to it (except for polticians and their ilk). This offends sometimes, but we also don't hold a grudge. So, one can have their say, and move on without long lasting implications. Also, things said to one another in private usually stay private.

There's much less pressure from sponsors and the media, and we have no international stresses, i.e. Scottsmen, vs Irishmen, vs, Englishmen, vs. Italians, , vs. Spaniards etc. The drivers in open wheels and sports cars are very international, but America is a melting pot where everyone becomes Americans if they want to. If you look at the surnames of the people in my neighboorhood, every possible national group is representented. We are all immigrants of one period or another. Individual prejudice does exist, but overt actions do not. Even women are strongly represented in racings as well as American life.

Racing is also not the sport of first choice, although NASCAR's popularity now puts in in the big leagues.

all American NASCAR fans aren't like this then?

Wow, that's really out there. But, that's why it's on, the other 50 people they called woulldn't bite.

In the US, blacks of african ancestory make up 13% of the population. However they are 81% of the players in the NBA and 65% of the players in the NFL. The top 40 music lists are about 61% black.

I can't defend NASCAR fans, maybe you can. There are no black drivers. Ham is the first in F1, if I'm not mistaken.

England has a population less than 2% black, but over 20% of footballers are black.

In the state of Louisiana, 38% of our population is black, the 2nd highest proportion in the US. And, a Black man stood as a groomsman in my wedding. We have been friends for 30 years and he stays over at my house as well as my parents house when he in either of our towns. He has a master's degree in Microbiology, is a patent holder, and owns his own company.

That's the America I know.

America really rushed in to help the poor buggers in New Orleans didn't they

New Orleans has a black Mayor and 60% of the city council are black. They didn't help themselves.

I have lived here for 52 years, watched the process, been shamed by it at times, and been proud of it at times. There's still work to do, and there always will be.

I certainly hope that your critique is sincere and not just an attempt to embarass me and other Americans. I don't deserve that. I'm one of the good guys.

I would love to have you over to visit. I'd show you my students, half of who are black, working hard to become licensed electricians. They are about the same age as you, and share your dreams and ambitions.

I helping to see they have that chance.

it's not an attempt to embarass anyone

the feeling over here, in the media and the people is that America's response to the New Orleans disaster was extremley poor and the reason for that was because it was of the high population of black people so the rest of America couldn't be bothered

this was further brought up in an episode of Top Gear where the presenters drove through America and finished up New Orleans

I won't post their comments here, this isn't the place

flood1 - July 4, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
Yeah, here we felt that the response was poor in all areas, not just New Orleans. A area the size of england was impacted and nowhere got any response. Our take was that no media wants to report from the small village destroyed, but the big city with complex racial, cultural, and political issues. I didn't seee a uniformed police officer, soldier, or anything for 7 days.

I live outside the city. I have a generator, fuel, 4 weeks of food, my on water well, and weapons and ammunition. I shared my lot with neighbors who were unprepared.

We a now again in the hurricane season, and I am sitting on my cache hoping that I don't need it.

One cannot expect politicians to help. They don't know how.

stradlin22 - July 4, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
bloody hurricanes!

bit of snow over here and the whole country grind's to a standstill

Paul_Murtagh - July 6, 2007 09:53 AM (GMT)
Congratulations to Minardi Team USA - it's been well over 20 years since the Minardi name won a race. The only pity is that Giancarlo Minardi wasn't there to witness it
