Last year in the Dutch Supercar race we had a rather nasty startlline shunt on a rolling start. I went through 3 flags in about 15s.

As is my wont, when I went to Amsterdam, I found a friendly local (in my case the barman at the hotel) to teach me a few stock phrases in the language of the country.

And I'm back. As always a great time, just need to sleep now.

The winners were the Duller Z4M crew who won by an astonishing 29 laps in what was an almost faultless 24hrs. 2nd place again went to the Rollcentre Mosler and 3rd to the Paragon Porsche.

Top Gear battled technical woes and accident damage to finish 39th overall and 3rd in class.

Any questions regarding the race or finishing order?

Any questions regarding the race or finishing order?

How long was the fog about for ?

Fog started to come down just before 0400. Came off post 0430, went to pit office and was in there when the safety car came out at about 0455. Race suspended just before 0530, restarted about 0715.

There were 3 Stigs on the Pit Lane entry list. Only two drove the car, and just Stig-1 drove during the race. The rough identities of the Stigs were known to the pit marshals, so I know roughly who they are. But I can't tell you... Security!

The BBC reported that Hamster crashed. Anything serious?

Nope, slight disagreement between the bmw and a mosler that resulted in a couple of hours work and the left hand door being bolted shut.

safc_fan89 - September 11, 2007 06:22 PM (GMT)
Not the high-speed crash that the press are recording then! How many laps did the winning team do?

Startline Ed - September 11, 2007 06:49 PM (GMT)
596, Top gear did 396

The STIG - September 18, 2007 08:36 PM (GMT)
Here's a crazy crazy idea...

Why don't we enter a car next year as Team TPL and try and beat Top gear's attempt?

Here's a crazy crazy idea...

Why don't we enter a car next year as Team TPL and try and beat Top gear's attempt?

I'm game if you are! I can't really bring any finance to the effort. Nor talent. But I'm enthusiastic! I could nick my Dad's M3...they're always a popular choice in Britcar!

The STIG - September 19, 2007 10:33 AM (GMT)
I can't bring any finance either. or really any talent. Don't panic.

I don't think your Dad would appreciate his M3's interior being ripped out and replaced by a load of iron work though!

Paul_Murtagh - September 19, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
Would you consider the Silverstone 24 hour race to be tougher than the likes of Le Mans, Spa-Francorchamps or Nurburgring due to the shorter lap and therefore higher concentration levels as they don't have as much time between corners?

The STIG - September 19, 2007 03:25 PM (GMT)
Remember that the Nurburgring is held on the Nordschleife - And that gives you no relaxation at all! I would say that that's a tougher race.

Le mans is quite a bit different from everything else - the fact that cars are created purely for the race adds a new element into it, and the fact it's a street race (technically) adds a new dimension of concentration.

Spa is closer to Silverstone, and gets odd weather.

But the great thing about silverstone, is that practically anything goes car wise, same as Nurburgring.

So to answer your question, No - they all have their own challenges, and a successfull finish in all of them is as good as a win.

someone - September 19, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
is it the Nat circuit the 24 hrs is run on or what?

The STIG - September 19, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
No, the 24 hours is run on the full Grand Prix circuit.

Which is quite definatly not flat, despite what some say.

gillesno27 - September 19, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
Silverstone's a circuit which really comes alive with some quick machinery on it; watching slower cars doesn't give you a proper impression of the ferocity of the corners. Le Mans I'd say is similar but it's SO fast. Watching full-house prototypes through the Porsche Curves is something quite special, but then the same could be said of Bridge at Silverstone. The Nordschleife is a unique challenge and must surely be the harshest circuit to build a rhythm up around. I'd love to get to the 24hrs there one day!
