Title: How much do you have to do?
The STIG - July 25, 2007 11:30 AM (GMT)
Another FAQ!
And the answer to this one is.... As much or as little as you like!
However, if you should do more than 12 days for BARC, they'll discount your membership to nothing. which is nice!
I personally do around 15-18 days a year, including sprints and training days. others do 50+ It's all down to you.

That's fairly standard for volunteer stuff though, hence being volunteers!

That is true, but you'd be amazed at how often it gets asked!

Most of the volunteer stuff I do is on a turn up and do basis. Some of it is rostered, but before the roster is done you get to specify any days during the next roster period that you can't do. So, it's not like you don't get warning, and of course you can swap it with someone who *can* cover your duty. Which is rather handy....

'As little as you like' isn't strictly true!
To maintain an MSA grade you must do at least four days marshalling every year & attend a training day at least once every two years.

To add to Dave's comments.........
In my opinion, anyone who does less than 10 days a year isn't *really* that interested!
Most Marshals get seriously hooked from day one - so an average of 20 days is more the norm!

I was averaging about 40 days a year, my record was 75 back in 96 <blush>
Tailed off a lot in the last couple though <think>

I used to do in excess of 40 days a year when I first started. Now I do around 20.
