Title: Property firm tries to buy Silverstone... Again.

The STIG - July 26, 2007 01:13 PM (GMT)
Report in this week's Autosport, Page11.

Spectre Developments has tried to buy Silverstone from the BRDC, with a 15 year plan worth £200M

The BRDC are going to vote about it on Monday.

Apparently the Club's precense will be preserved in "Perpetuality" by the deal, but the BRDC say Silverstone isn't for sale. and quite rightly so!

Propety firm? They gunna build houses at copse?

The STIG - July 26, 2007 02:04 PM (GMT)
No one really knows what they want - but if they put a house within half a mile of the track, you can kiss motorsport at Silverstone good bye.

Jeez... what a loss. Give me a decent track like Brands any day....!!

The STIG - July 26, 2007 03:45 PM (GMT)
It would be a huge loss Norbs - Silverstone is by far the most developed and well equiped circuit the UK has - no matter what Bernie says! Also if motorsport is to stand any chance of surviving long term around here, we need all the venues we can get.

Silverstone is a good circuit...

The STIG - July 26, 2007 05:09 PM (GMT)
... shame about the organisation!

Norbert - July 26, 2007 05:38 PM (GMT)
It's soooooo bland!!!!

The STIG - July 26, 2007 05:40 PM (GMT)
Nevertheless, it's still a huge part of UK motorsport!

Although I'll agree with you that certain areas (like the viewing) could be improved upon. The layout is fine though, and 100 times better than your average tilke drome.

Norbert - July 26, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
The layout for the F1 track is dull and boring. All the old corners have been turned into silly little chicanes or tightened up/removed etc. What's all that Luffield complex rubbish about?

safc_fan89 - July 26, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
Same as every circuit. Safety. With the exception of Abbey, I think the track is fine. Better than a lot of the F1 tracks at least.

The STIG - July 26, 2007 08:03 PM (GMT)
Still better than the hairpin-straight-hairpin-straight-hairpin-straight approach that Tilke has. I guess you'd have to see it with something other than a F1 car and it's karting school reject driver to truly appreciate the technical bits of the track. They make it look too easy!

Oh yeah, and Luffield/Brooklands/Woodcote was mullered for the motorbikes...

My F1 computer game helps me to judge circuits. Silverstone has "flow" and "continuity." I feel a certain natural intuitive reaction to this track. Spa is like that too.

What does your game tell you about the following...

Bahrain, Indianapolis, Mangy Course, and Kwuala Lumpy?

That they are s*** and that I hate to drive them. No rhythm, no flow. I seldom waste my time.
