Title: How will Damon fare?

Paul_Murtagh - August 3, 2007 06:37 PM (GMT)
With Damon Hill making his commentary debut at this weekend's Hungarian GP alongside James Allen (God help him - why don't they send Allen on a permanent holiday instead of Brundle!), how do you think he will fare? Will he give a valued insight or become another Mark Blundell?

Red Andy - August 3, 2007 06:42 PM (GMT)
Obviously he won't be a patch on Brundle, but hopefully he won't be as bad as Ant Davidson was last year (or Jenson at Monaco 2005).

He seems a bit nervous, at the moment.

I thought Hill was pretty good today and gave us some insight to the track that Brundle and Pee wee can not.

I think he will do a better job during the race tomorrow, and his nerves maybe got the better off him today. Brundle was the same when he first began at ITV

Damon doesnt even watch f1 much anymore and you could see that his lack of modern f1 knowledge let him down today.

He was an in studio expert on the Sky F1 coverage and he was pretty good. Even when Jeremy Hart asked him if he ever practiced spraying champagne.

I would give him a 6/10 today, he said some interesting things but some of his statements were a bit basic and he was more biased than Brundle. Not bad though

I was interested to note that despite James Allen trying several times to get Damon to talk about his own experiences at Hungary, he wasn't going to be drawn. And quite right too, he was there to commentate, not reminisce.

A little more practice and he could be at least as good as Martin. Not sure if those two together in the commentary box would be a good idea, though.. <yikes> ..lots of in-jokes I suspect <blink>

What would you have prefered? JA on his own? JA and Louise Goodman together? <sick>

Apart from calling the Ferrari's 'Trucks' he did an OK job...

I have to say that getting former drivers into the commentary box is fine up to a point... it give a unique point of view... but as the retires Schumacher has said once you are out of the car you rapidly loose touch with what is happening...

but all in all I fell a drivers view is a vital component in a good commentary team...

after all Hunt did very well as I recall... <thumbsup>
