I have to say this is probably the best lap i have ever seen onboard, Kimi Raikkonen at Hockenheim last year, an incredible lap..enjoy

It was a fluked pole though, he had 10 laps of fuel in, didn't he?

Red Andy - August 15, 2007 04:17 PM (GMT)
I would say Raikkonen's lap at Monza 05 was better. Pole position with half a race's worth of fuel on board, knowing he had to drop 10 places for the race! Even as someone who doesn't rate Kimi all that highly, I'll admit he's a brilliant qualifier....

Dull. How about this.... Ayrton Senna taking pole at Monaco despite being badly held up through the second part of the swimming pool complex? Ever seen an F1 car being driven one handed on opposite lock? You have now....

He still had to do the time, it wasnt his fault he only had 10 laps. What impressed me was that the car was never out of control or sideways at any point and the last corner was incredible

Dull. He had the best car

Are we talking about quali only or race laps?

Didn't Fangio once run one lap slowly to get his competition to slow down to save the car, only to roar back on the next lap and win? Was that at Nurburgring?

DavidColthard II - August 15, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
Maybe not the best ever, but it was so close to perfection it has to be up there.

all cobblers. <ban>

if we are talking qualy -

sir stirling described this as the greatest lap of monaco he had ever seen (and being 806 he has seen a good few of them!)

and since monaco is the greatest qualifying challenge in f1.... :P

Kimi's pole lap at Monza in 2005 was pretty special. I've never seen an onboard of that lap.

Rob - August 15, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
I always thought this was pretty good.

Never seen that lap before Rob. That was an impressive lap in what was a real dog of a car

That was of course the famous race where Schumacher drove for McLaren (well not really but appearances can be deceptive!)

Red Andy - August 15, 2007 11:15 PM (GMT)
My recollection of that race is that Schumacher didn't do much driving at all....

Hey Vikki, I do think that lap at Monaco was a great one. Look at the pace and the closeness to the barriers and you can see an excellent performance.

My only trip to Monaco, I spent qualifying between Tabac and the entry into la piscine. I love that section and Turly nailed it.

Morpun94 - August 16, 2007 06:18 AM (GMT)
Wasnt good on apex for sachs hairpin in stadium, and kicked up dirt out of last corner. Those are flaws, so therefore not even close to perfection

DavidColthard II - August 16, 2007 06:56 AM (GMT)
I didnt see any dirt, it was incredibly brave to effectively take the last corner flat. Trulli's lap of Monaco 2004, was incredible, from the hairpin to the end of the lap really is perfection.
