Title: F1's greatest overtakes
dcoulthard19 - August 23, 2007 10:44 AM (GMT)
Lets look at some youtube clips of some of the best ever overtaking in F1 history.
On the F1 user Survey Mika's move on Schumacher Spa 2000 was chosen by a large majority.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHp37wddxs4Certainly in the modern era of F1 that is by far the greatest move.
Its closest challenger is then Alonso at 130r in Japan 2005.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpD8AcdxrlQ- Also shows his other great moves that day.
Alonso's move on Nick in France this season was also another great move but haven't found that on youtube yet.
A few more recent moves that I liked :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mr8dOqYit3Y(the move on the next lap was better though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QScveJY9JRA- Montoya's move on MS in Brazil(DC did a good move on MS in that race as well <thumbsup> )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbyfRPqPEqA- MS Vs Kimi in Brazil in 2006
I will let everyone else contribute with their moves from throughout F1 history, I have just started off with a few recent examples.

Alonso on Schumacher, Hungary 2006: I know it wasn't a fair contest because the Bridgestone wets were useless, but a good battle nonetheless.
Villeneuve on Schumacher, Portugal 1996Sato on Alonso, Canada 2007Sato on DC, USA 2004: Came from a long way back, maybe this is where DC was inspired for his infamous Australia move....
Montoya on Webber, Australia 2006: Bit of an unorthodox place for Montoya to try overtaking.

Amazing how close the cars were getting to one another down those straights even 10 years ago - you'd never see anything like that today.
safc_fan89 - August 23, 2007 02:08 PM (GMT)
Even 4 years ago it was nowhere near as bad. I saw a clip on youtube of Montoya getting a tow from another car so easily along the start-finish straight at Silverstone...that never happens now!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VXU5WQP8kuAM Schumachers great move on Damon.
What the clip does not show you is Schumacher during the 5 laps before the pass moved to the dirty side of the track to make a clean line so he could perform and make the move stick

If I'd seen any of them I might have suggested Button at the Nurburing overtaking about 16 cars in one lap or thereabouts, however, I didn't see any of them due to poor weather and crap coverage and the usual mayhem under such conditions.
I would say Button at China last year 06 when he cleverly made his way past Heidfeld and Barrichello, but I don't have Youtube access where I work so can't post a link sorry.
Red Andy - October 3, 2007 12:03 PM (GMT)
Cleverly? He only made it past because Sato got in everybody's way. Was luck rather than judgement for Jense.
As for the Nurburgring, most of the cars Button passed were flying off everywhere due to still being on dry tyres in the poor weather, and many pitted at the end of the lap. He probably only properly overtook about five or six cars on that lap, still a good job by him but not the superhuman effort it is made out to be.

In the last phase of that race button was on one, he worked really hard to pass his team made who I think he made look a little ordinary that day. IMO he's made some great moves, but I'm not really comparing him with Senna and Mansell et al.

Was that when Rubens had no front wing and Heidfeld had a wheel hanging off?
