Title: BTCC Thruxton

The STIG - June 4, 2006 05:32 PM (GMT)
I'm expecting a full report from those who went!

Not a bad day's racing, driving standards appear to have improved slightly (only one major shunt!) and lots of pretty good action.

Morpun94 - June 4, 2006 05:35 PM (GMT)
who won the third race? i had to go out. tell me pls

The STIG - June 4, 2006 05:39 PM (GMT)
Turkington

NewMrMe - June 4, 2006 08:35 PM (GMT)
It was good. Dave Pinkney became the crowd favourite after his performance in race 2 (at the complex anyway), apart from some mad woman who was cheering very loudly for Rob Collard. I recorded the race but have not seen it yet so I have only heard reports of Turner's accident. The Porsche Supercup drivers made sure the meeting had its full quota of bent cars.

The STIG - June 4, 2006 08:49 PM (GMT)
Without spoiling it, Turner's was a big one - as you will no doubt be aware, it brought out the saftey car.

Here's something I found odd though - there appeared to be about 10 marshals attending to that incident, where did they all come from? I'm used to posts only having 3 to 4 guys on it!

TOCA/BTCC meetings bring marshals out of the wood work.
Last year I was IO at Post2 for the Summer meeting at Brands (Indy circuit). Post2 is notoriously quiet, if you don't get something on the start you can go to sleep, even if there's an impact going into Paddock Hill you can duck and let the accident pass you and end up at three.
On Saturday I had XO, 3 flags, me, course, trainee. Sunday I had XO, telephonist, 4 flags, me, Red Badge, 2 green badge, and a trainee. We were tripping over each other.

Don't know why everyone goes to TOCA meetings though, I only went to that one as there was nothing else on; there's too much politics. Plus you'll end up on live TV. Mind you, that could be it....

Live TV. Must be that

probably the TV, or the fact that BTCC is one of the most over hyped series around

I had a great time. Although I must admit I enjoyed the Clio's and Cupra racing the most

What? not the FRenault? Ginetta will be most upset!

What, it's over-hyped? Where?!

They were very good too. All the racing was good. Had a great day :)

I thought the last BTCC race was not bad. I wish ITV would do a better job with the coverage though, and that Vicky Butler-Henderson wasn't presenting it!

I prefered the 2nd race.
MotorsTV is better <thumbs>

Bring Back BBC!

In any case, which would you rather - watching on TV, or watching at the circuit?

I loved the day out. The only downside is you miss alot of the action. If you're at the chicane you miss what happens at the Complex

Depends how much of the action you want to see. Not that I've ever been to a circuit <doh>

And I know Motors TV is better. What could be worse than ITV?

The Porsche incident was interesting. Damien Faulkner tapped the back of Tim Harvey entering the Complex and both spun but both were still on the track. About 3 or 4 seconds behind them was a pack of 7 or 8 cars. Some went to the inside, other to the outside, others could not see what had happened. It was only ever going to end in tears.
