Autosport.com - Glock remains on standby for BMW

Timo Glock has been put on standby until tonight to be BMW Sauber's reserve driver for this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix, even though he is bidding to win the GP2 championship at Valencia.

The German has been told that if there is any problem with either Nick Heidfeld or Robert Kubica during today's first practice sessions at Fuji then he must get on a flight to Japan immediately.

If, however, the team have a trouble-free opening day of action for the Japanese GP then Glock will be free to focus entirely on the final round of GP2 at Spain.

Mixed emotions for Glock I'm sure. Although he is pushing for an F1 drive and would love to drive a GP for BMW, he must be relieved that he still has the chance to take the GP2 crown.
