Title: Should road racing continue?

Should bikes continue to race on public roads, such as the Isle of Man TT and North West 200? It is a spectacular event to watch, and must be a great thrill for the riders to take part in, but the rising number of deaths each year shows that maybe the bikes are getting too fast for this type of racing and that bike racing should possibly be restricted to circuits

I would allow it to continue even though I'm opposed to it. Provided every rider knows what they are signing up for, and providing the event is run properly so we don't have situations like David Jeffries I don't think I have the right to tell the riders what they can and can't do.

It's not like short circuit racing can be feeling superior at the moment, look at what's happened in BSB this year.

Maybe the use of the latest generation 1000cc superbikes could be looked at though, most of these circuits couldn't concieve of such powerful machines when they were first run.

So how dangerous is road racing, then? Which suffers more fatalities per racing mile, road racing or short circuit racing?

What tosh.

Rising number of deaths? There's fewer now than ever. Best read somehting other than the Daily Mail!

David's crash was almost certainly unavoidable. The fact that (as far as I'm aware) no litigation came out of it proves that it was just an unfortunate set of circumstances.

More to the point, what suffers more deaths per mile? Racing or riding on the road? Best we ban road bikes. And cars. I hear people choose to drive of their own accord and get killed too.....
