Autosport.com - Glock takes title with victory

Timo Glock scored a lights-to-flag victory in the final round of the GP2 Series at Valencia on Sunday, to put the icing on his championship cake.

Glock (iSport) got ahead of poleman Javier Villa (Racing Engineering) at the start and was never challenged throughout the 30-lap race.

The big mover at the start was Marcos Martinez (Racing Engineering), who rocketed from fifth to third as fellow Spaniards Andy Soucek (DPR) and Borja Garcia (Durango) had their own private skirmish and he nipped past them both.

Martinez would hold third until lap three, when he went off at the final corner. That promoted Soucek back to third and Garcia to fourth.

Giorgio Pantano held off yesterday's winner, and Campos team-mate, Vitaly Petrov, until the latter headed into the gravel for a brief excursion, promoting the battling Luca Filippi (Super Nova) and Kazuki Nakajima (DAMS).

Well done to Timo. He has driven well all season and while Di Grassi put up a good challenge, I think Timo deserved the title. He could end up getting a seat in F1 next year with possibly Spyker

Glock deserves that title, he's done a good job, I hope he finally gets the chance he deserves next season, maybe with Toyota?

Di Grassi has shown a good account of himself and I am sure he will get himself a F1 career of some description.

Its been an interesting GP2 season, some crazy races, lots of different winners, amibitious moves and one or two scary moments like that race in Magny-Cours.

Is anyone interested in Glock in F1? it would be a shame if the newly restored tradition of the F2/F3000/GP2 champion getting into F1 was broken.

It's a bit of an odd situation with Glock. He is the only person to have won the F3000/GP2 crown to have raced in F1 before winning the crown (Alesi was racing in F1 when he won in 1989). I think he done a decent job in F1 with Jordan, and having got a contract with BMW, he must have a good chance of securing a drive again next year or even in 2009
