That's fine if Freeview works in your area. Back at home, where I will be, it doesn't. In Bournemouth the flat I rent isn't provided with a working aerial and for the amount ot TV I actually want to watch, the cost of installing a decent aerial (assuming the landlord approves) plus the TV licence would be a waste of money.

ITV have the contract for the F1, therefore it shold be available to ALL ITV viewers, not just those who have bought extras/satellite/cable. It is supposed to be FREE.

I guess you'll be up baba creek without a paddle when they switch off the analogue signal in a few years.

It's funny that everyone says the same thing whenever this happens. You all know this was going to happen. I shelled out for a freeview box at home (sadly I won't be at home this weekend so i won't be able to watch quali, most likely).

If you don't want to pay for a suitable aerial and a TV licence, isn't that your problem?

This should be in the F1 Media forum :)

Nope. Where I spend most of my time I don't have time to watch TV, and when I go home at weekends it's my parent's problem to sort out....

:P

No, because unless I'm very much mistaken, quali happens on a Saturday, when I am not in Bournemouth very often.....

When I actually OWN somewhere as opposed to rent, I will have a decent aerial and as the TV we have is digital capable anyway, it won't be an issue. As it stands, I see no reason to waste the best part of £150 on a TV licence for a TV that gets feck all reception due to the crappy aerial, and I'd suggest that one of those indoor ones wouldn't be a lot better.

I'd rather put up with the occasional bout of inconsiderate behaviour from ITV than waste money on something I won't use!

safc_fan89 - October 17, 2007 11:09 AM (GMT)
Well if you're not willing to pay that, you can't moan when you don't rget to watch the programme, surely!

dcoulthard19 - October 17, 2007 04:59 PM (GMT)
You have to see this from ITV's point of view.

The X Factor will get viewing figures of over 10 million this weekend as it is the first live show if I am not mistaken.

Qualifying will get nowhere near that amount plus Simon Cowell has a huge money contract with ITV so I don't think shifting the X Factor is something ITV can afford to do even if they wanted to.

In terms of qualifying it really is only the hardcore fans that want to watch qualifying, all the casual and armchair fans will tune in in their millions on Sunday for the title decider race :)

The other thing to point out is that everyone will be forced to watch Digital TV due to the switchover which is already starting some parts.

So its either get a freeview box or you could be looking at a black screen otherwise.

safc_fan89 - October 17, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
I'm not so sure...I reckon that viewing figures for the last race will be the biggest in years. And think back to say Silverstone qualifying, sometimes the most dramatic stuff happens in quali. So I think that now, more than just the hardcore fans would watch quali.

They could always change the time of X Factor...

dcoulthard19 - October 17, 2007 06:40 PM (GMT)
Its very easy to say you can change the time of X Factor but actually that can't happen unfortunately.

The main reason being is that ITV want to put the X Factor against Strictly Come Dancing on BBC. They both want to outdo each other. It has been like this ever since these two shows first came to air. Over the whole year these two of the most popular evening TV programmes.

This is all a bit sad I know, why not to these two programmes on at separate times and lots of people enjoy both but ITV and BBC rather go to war with each other than be sensible and use commone sense.

I agree that more people would watch quali than usual(if it was on ITV1), the audience figures for quali aren't too high anyway though so you won't get anywhere near the figure that the X Factor would. Quali has always tended to be for the hardcore interest, the general public have more interest in the race even though dramatic things can happen in quali and its importance is very high these days.

However On Sunday evening there are no big name programmes on either on BBC or ITV so the race will get its slot and we will probably get 10 million plus viewers for it due to it being the closest title battle for years and of course Lewis being one of the contenders.

It is likely to be the most watched race ever worldwide on any channel I would think and I will be interested in seeing the final figures afterwards.

Lord Tau - October 18, 2007 08:33 AM (GMT)
It's a moot point anyway - ITV would be unable to move the broadcast time of The X-Factor, as then it would clash with the Rugby World Cup Final.
