- This will be the third time in four years that the Brazilian GP has hosted the final round of the championship since it was moved to the tail end of the season in 2004. The only year that it didn't host the final race was in 2005 when it was the third last race
- The first Brazilian GP was held in 1973 at Interlagos on the back of Emerson Fittipaldi's first world championship. It was won by Fittipaldi that year in also in 1974, the year of his second world championship.
- The 1975 race was won by local driver Carlos Pace. After his death it was decided to rename the circuit in his honour.
- In 1981 the race switched to the Jacarepagua circuit in Rio de Janeiro after complaints that the Interlagos track was too long and too bumpy. It remained at Rio until 1989
- The race returned to a reformed Interlagos in 1990, yet still contained all the elevation changes and fearful bumps. It was well received despite poor run-off areas which were no more than much
- Ayrton Senna finally won his home race in 1991 after the race was finished a few laps early due to rain. The Brazilian was overcome as his car began to faulter and wouldn'ty have made it to the finish had it went the full distance
- The 1994 race seen the first mandatory fuel stops in F1 history. It also seen a fantastic duel between Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna which was settled with Senna spun at Juncao before stalling. He was to lose his life two races later at Imola
- In 1996 the new Brazilian hero, Rubens Barrichello, had a fantastic race in the wet for Jordan which seen him challenging at the front before spinning into retirement at Turn 4. Damon Hill went on to win the race for Williams.
- The 1998 race seen the final outing for McLaren's controversial second brake pedal, which allowed the drivers to slow one rear wheel through corners while accelerating with the other. It was banned after protest from other teams as McLaren took a dominating one-two finish
- Barrichello once again drove the home fans wild when he qualified third for Stewart in 1999. He then took the lead on lap 5 when Mika Haikkinen temporarily slowed with transmission problems. Rubens led until half way before making a pit stop, and looked good for a podium finish before his engine failed.
- The 2001 race seen Juan Pablo Montoya announce himself onto the F1 stage after a daring move on Michael Schumacher going into Turn 1. He was on for victory before he was taken out by Jos Verstappen who he had just lapped. The race was won by David Coulthard who overtook Schumacher around the outside in the wet at Turn 1
- One of the craziest races in F1 history happened during the 2003 race. After starting behind the safety car, the drivers struggled to keep the cars on the track due to small rivers running across it. The infamous Turn 3 claimed 6 drivers throughout the race, including Montoya and Michael Schumacher. It was eventually won by Giancarlo Fisichella but he wasn't awarded the win until 5 days later after Raikkonen was declared the original winner
- The 2004 race seen the last Williams victory to date when Montoya took the win from his future team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. Rubens Barrichello finally finished his home race in third after retiring at home 9 years in a row
- The title has been decided twice at Interlagos. IN 2005 Fernando Alonso took the title when he finished in third place, winning the championship with two rounds to spare. And last year the Spaniard took the crown after he finished second, while championship rival Michael Schumacher had an eventful race after qualifying tenth and a puncture. He couldn't finish no higher than fourth in his final F1 race.
