Autosport.com - RuSPORT to pull out at the end of '07

RuSPORT are set to pull out of Champ Car at the end of this season, leaving Justin Wilson without a drive for 2008.

Wilson, who has raced for the team for the past three years, had been contracted to them for next year, which had prevented any of the other top teams in the series from making a serious bid for him.

The British driver hopes that he can stay in the series for 2008, but he believes that his future could be decided in the next couple of weeks.

"They have just announced they are closing down," Wilson was quoted as saying by goldcoast.com.au

"They have just told me and the crew. They don't want to carry on. This weekend I will have to see what my options are."

It's a pity that one of ChampCar's biggest teams has decided to pull out. They could win the championship this year which would be a great way to go. And a pity for Justin Wilson - he looks settled in that team and has gotten stronger along with the team.

This doesn't help Champ Car's future much. Can they assemble a big enough grid next year?

Surely though Justin Wilson will get something next year?

with the recent rumours about Rocketsports closing down and the constant worries for Conquest it's just yet more bad news for Champ Car

like has been mentioned, RuSport is one of the championships most competitive teams and it's closure is a big blow

Justin will be fine, whatever happens in champ car

Several IRL teams have enquired about him in the past and so he could end up there

We've all felt that the Champ Car future was bleak. In some ways, I wish it would just go ahead and happen. If so, 5 teams and 10 drivers could bring the IRL fields back to 30 cars, and get on with it.

Quite. Champ Car is becoming like the Queen Mother - a decrepit old burden with everyone speculating about when it's finally going to shuffle off. It has lost all hope of dying with dignity, but let's hope it doesn't hang on for so long that it just becomes ridiculous.
