Title: Race Preview - Brazil

Paul_Murtagh - October 17, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
So it all comes down to this! 16 races, 4 continents and yet there are still 3 drivers who can take the crown. This season has been one of the most dramatic and exciting in F1 history. The action both on and off track has captured the imagination of both the hardcore fans and new followers to the sport, and it will be decided over an hour an a half on Sunday evening. Without a doubt, this will be a showdown not to be missed.

The duel between the McLaren drivers has been the main focus of the British media all season. Rookie Lewis Hamilton leads the championship by 4 points going into the final race, and is hoping to become F1's first ever rookie world champion. But after a rookie mistake last time out in China there could be questions over both his confidence and his nerves under such pressure. Team-mate Fernando Alonso, who is looking to become the first person to win his first 3 titles back to back, has been under this pressure before and pulled through. Experience could prove vital in this race

The outsider for the title is the one with nothing to lose. Kimi Raikkonen looked lost at the start of the season and was eclipsed by team-mate Felipe Massa, but since his win at the French GP he has been a different driver. He has finished on the podium 8 times out of 9, including 4 wins, and his position as championship outsider maybe isn't as far fetched as first thought. His strong record at Interlagos recently means he has a chance of victory and therefore a chance of the championship should Hamilton and/or Alonso faulter

Further down the field and it looks like BMW could struggle again this weekend having stopped development on this year's car and switching their focus towards 2008. This could allow Renault to close the gap in the standings, but with both teams standings settled it will mean nothing. And this could be Giancarlo Fisichella's last race with the French team. They won't confirm their second driver until after Brazil and with rumours of Alonso's return to Renault this could leave Fisi out in the cold

And things have finally began looking up for two struggling teams. Honda, after looking like scoring no more points this season, scored 4 points last time out thanks to Jenson Button, meaning that they leapfrogged their customer team Super Aguri just in the nick of time. And Toro Rosso, who have been disappointing all season, outdone themselves in China. Vettel scored 5 points and could have scored a podium, and Tonio Liuzzi scored his best ever F1 result with 6th place.

So there's not much more left to say about this season. It has been exciting, dramatic, and on lap 71 on Sunday evening we will know who has come out on top. Gentlemen - it's time to race!
