Title: Guts or pointless aggro?

This was a confrontation between Lewis Hamilton and L'Equipe writer Anne Giuntini at the post-qualifying press conference in Brazil yesterday:

"For everybody, it is evident that twice you disturbed Kimi. Is everything good to become a world champion?" she asked.

Hamilton responded: "To be honest there is no reason for me to do anything to Kimi because if anything he can win..."

"You never showed him clearly that you could give him the track free?" Giuntini continued, as the two locked in a heated exchange.

"What do you want me to do? Put the indicator on?" Hamilton replied.

"You know exactly..." She said.

"I did the best job I could to get out of the way," Hamilton insisted. "And I did apologise to him if I did get in his way."

"Is that what you call the best job?" Giuntini continued.

"Yes," Hamilton responded.

Giuntini: "As a sportsman?"

Hamilton: "Yes. How are you at your job? Are you the best at your job? You never made mistakes....no?"

Giuntini: "Sometimes..."

Hamilton: "Oh, really..."

Other journalists managed to stir the press conference on to other topics, until one made the mistake of mentioning Giuntini's run-in with Hamilton, labelling it a "ridiculous exchange". The Frenchwoman saw this as her cue to pick up where she earlier left off.

"Let us continue the ridiculous exchange," she turned to Hamilton. "Do you think you can do everything you want and then you just apologise - is that the way it works in Formula One?"

"I'm not going to answer that," Hamilton finally snapped. "I just don't want to talk to you, to be honest."

Does this girl have guts to take 'The Chosen One' on unlike most of the press, or was it nit-packing from a journalist?

No, she just sounds like a stupid woman who doesn't understand anything. And that's not a sexist comment, just saying how pathetic her questions above are.

Being a married man, there are times you just say ok your right i am wrong even though you know your right

Being single, he probably hasn't heard of the quiet life? <roflmao> <roflmao> <roflmao>

Giuntini, who is married to Renault's head of engine track operations Denis Chevrier, was later seen in the paddock being berated by a rather angry McLaren boss Ron Dennis as well as Hamilton's father Anthony.

So Hamilton got both his dads to 'get her'. <think>

Paul, remember that this is a woman involved, so she in theory shouldn't have balls.

We could be surprised!

I know most people don't think she has any sense, but it's good to see a member of the media drill Hamilton on something she felt he done wrong whether or not he has done wrong, pretty much in the same way that Senna and Schumacher used to get treated

safc_fan89 - October 21, 2007 08:44 AM (GMT)
It's the fact that her argument has no logic at all. Kimi's mistake came because he ran too deep in the corner. Hamilton wasn't on the racing line, and let him past, so I don't see the problem. Why didn't she demand an apology from Massa for taking pole, rather than working with Kimi to get HIM on pole? Mad.

Paul_Murtagh - October 21, 2007 08:52 AM (GMT)
Does this highlight the media's changing attitude towards Hamilton in light of the differing treatment between himself and Alonso at McLaren and Hamilton's own change of attitude as the season has went on? Like safc_fan says it is something over nothing

*Puts on cheesy French accent from Allo Allo...*

"You stupid woman...!"

Ying and Yang.

The UK press and especially ITV are so far up Hamilton's backside its now embarrassing to listen to or read what they say.

e.g. Yesterday Massa got the Pole position. He is first on the grid, he got a time quicker than anyone else. ITV's response to this material fact
"the true pole sitter is Hamilton as i am sure he has more fuel on board"

It's not surprising that at some point with such biased reporting it will swing the other way.
Why can't reporters just report the facts and give a slight bias in a fashion that you know who they support but not at the cost of alienating everyone including the fans of their favored subject? For all his exuberance Murray Walker did this a lot better than the cretins at ITV today. We all knew who he supported, he let us know how he felt, but he did not detract from the overall picture.

That journalist was being well out of line in my opinion and she got the answers from Hamilton that she deserved.

If that had been me in Hamilton's position I would have been far more rude than that.

You will be able to hear from him after the race on Five Live :)

I see your point on Murray, it was always clear who he supported but it was all real rather than fake and sexed up, his words always came from his heart.

You can never get his first words after Damon Hill won the title in 96, but despite it being completely biased nobody cared because of the way he said it.

Murray isn't so ridiculous about it all. ITV's coverage is just a joke. I'd laugh if Hamilton came in first...

Red Andy - October 21, 2007 02:44 PM (GMT)
I think we can be certain that James Allen will be coming first today!

Given how quickly Lewis's title chances faded, I guess not.

And <topic>

I'm a woman (just in case some of you hadn't noticed). This journalist is just daft in my opinion.

Her questions are questionable, to say the least. Being married to a Renault person, she is not entirely impartial either.

Anyway, isn't L'Equipe the French equivalent of the sports pages of the Sun?
