Title: Who/What/Where is This?

The STIG - October 23, 2007 09:36 PM (GMT)
Here's a little game. I'll post a picture up, and you have to tell me the subject's identity without cheating!

Any picture goes, it'll either be a motorsport person or a motorsport object or a motorsport location...

So, Who's This?
user posted image
your one and only clue - he's a BTCC Driver.

Lord Tau - October 23, 2007 09:42 PM (GMT)
I think I know the answer but I'm not 100% sure.

The STIG - October 23, 2007 09:45 PM (GMT)
Try it then, you metrologist!

Lord Tau - October 23, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
Is it Fabrizio Giovanardi (sp?)

The STIG - October 23, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
It's not Gio. Try again.

Lord Tau - October 23, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
Bah! He had that Italian look about him an' all!

The STIG - October 23, 2007 09:59 PM (GMT)
Whilst he's thinking about this, I'll add that I'll be keeping score. So it's going to be 10 points for getting it right with only the one clue. 5 points for getting it right with another clue, and 2 points for getting it right with any more clues.

And there's bonus points on offer on certain photos too.

wickedwitch - October 23, 2007 10:02 PM (GMT)
Mike Jordan

The STIG - October 23, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
Correct - 10 points for you!

Okay, for the second one, I'm looking for the location. 2 points bonus if you can tell me the car (only the marque will do) and another 2 if you can tell me the driver's name.

Ready?

your Clue : This is a hillclimb!

wickedwitch - October 23, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
Oh I've just read the rest of the thread - didn't know you were giving clues!

stradlin22 - October 23, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
if you didn't know that was Mike Jordan you want shooting!

The STIG - October 23, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
To make this a bit fairer, I'll wait a bit before marking this. Anyone who answers correctly gets the points.

(I'm making this up as I go along, can you tell?)

Of course I knew it was Mike Jordan. I've known him years, which made it dead easy - which is why I posted the other comment about clues!

stradlin22 - October 23, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
it's deffo a Reynard

Will Mason is my guess for driving it and i'm saying it's a 913 maybe?

The STIG - October 23, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
And where do you think it is, Stradders?

It's definitely Harewood. I've marshalled there and I recognise the farm buildings.

Of course I am!

I'm having second thoughts on the car though <think>

The STIG - October 24, 2007 07:51 AM (GMT)
Right, there's still some confusion, however...

Both of you get 10 points! It is indeed the farm at Harewood.
Neither of you got the driver - it's Simon Durling
The car is in fact a Gould GR55B, powered by a Nicholson McLaren V8 engine. However I have it on good authority that this design is based on a Reynard chassis, so I'll give you an extra bonus point for that.

The scores. WW - 21, Stradlin - 12, Tau - 0 (!)

Now. we've had a who, we've had a where, now for a what...

So what are these peculiar machines. Bonus point if you can tell me where they is.

The STIG - October 24, 2007 11:13 AM (GMT)
He's right you know - 14 points there Martyn.

The Scores - WW 21, Stradlin 12, Grandslammer 14, Tau 0

Next one then, and we're back to a who...

Your clue - This is a Welsh rally driver.

There are no bonus points awarded at all for this one.

stradlin22 - October 24, 2007 11:19 AM (GMT)
that's a superb call Grandslammer

stradlin22 - October 24, 2007 11:19 AM (GMT)

It is indeed Gwyndaf Evans Matt, in front of what I can only assume is his Mitsu Evo IX.

The STIG - October 24, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
Correct! It's the Welsh Wizard himself.

Useless trivia, Gwyndaf has slid a (loaded) school bus down a welsh hillside.

Anyway, the scores are...

Stradlin 22, WW 21, Grand slammer 14, Ed 10, and Tau 0

So we've had another who - now for a where...

Appropriately enough, this picture is a pit lane.

Clue : This is on the other side of the world to everyone but Mrs Shrek.

2 bonus points if you can name the event which is taking place here

Startline Ed - October 24, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
Aussie V8s meeting?

The STIG - October 24, 2007 05:00 PM (GMT)
Try and sort the location out, then go for the bonuses.

stradlin22 - October 24, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
Pukekohe, NZ?

The STIG - October 24, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
Yes, that's Pukekohe, and it is Aussie V8s, so the scores are now...

Stradlin 32, WW 21, Ed 22, Grandslammer 14.

high time for a what then.

Clue : Quite possibly the most successfull car to be built in Wales.

Bonus for the driver's name.

gillesno27 - October 24, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
That's a Darrian. I remember one winning the British GT Championship about 12 yrs ago. They were powered by a 2l Cosworth turbo engine of the kind which featured in the Sierra/Escort Cossie. I will try find some more info. Certainly the model number I always remember is the T90.

This is clearly a rally car. I will give it more thought and get back to you, although I'm sure Swansea Uni is somehow involved...

stradlin22 - October 24, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
great call gillesno27
