Pick your choices

John - October 24, 2007 10:57 AM (GMT)
rather shorter list than the Fangio award <whistle>

PiquetFan - October 24, 2007 12:00 PM (GMT)
I don't like the idea of a 'worst driver' award :(

Well last year it was easy <roflmao>

RJHSaints - October 24, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
Why is the list confined to five choices? Surely we should be able to select any driver we want?

Paul_Murtagh - October 24, 2007 06:33 PM (GMT)
Albers was a huge disappointment, and surely only got his seat this year because of his nationality. They should have kept Monteiro instead

flood1 - October 25, 2007 04:28 AM (GMT)
Ralph. I expected more, but I don't know why.

safc_fan89 - October 25, 2007 07:34 AM (GMT)
I'd go for Albers, but i'm not going to vote.

Seriously, Paul or DC19. Is it possible to change the poll options to add all the drivers? I've been holding out on voting so far as the driver I was going to go for isn't actually there, but if you can't, I've an idea of who I'd go for out of the five. I still think it's ridiculous that you should only be able to select from a list of five when we didn't have any choice about the five that are on the list.

Apologies for the rant. <thumbsup>

Me and Paul agreed on these nominations and we think that they are fair.

I was considering just putting all the drivers on but thought it would be a bit silly letting people have the chance to vote for the likes of Hamilton and Raikkonen as worse driver of the year.

If you don't entirely agree with the selection then thats fair enough, other people might not agree with nominations for other awards but it can be like that in these types of awards, see the F1 Racing awards for example where there are constantly utterly stupid nominations.

But like I said I feel we have picked the right nominations here, although to be honest maybe this wasn't a great award to have after all but there we go.

RJHSaints - October 25, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Fair enough. I have added my vote.

Albers was shocking, i cant believe how many chose Ralf he still qualified 6th a few times in a shitbox car.

dcoulthard19 - October 25, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
Ralf has had a few 6th places in quali but in those races has he actually managed to convert any of them to decent race results?

Apart from those 6th place spots in quali Ralf has been absolutely shocking you have to admit in what after all isn't that slow a car.

DavidColthard II - October 25, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
This years toyota was a shocking car, especially in races.

Just out of interest, my Saintly friend, how would you have voted if allowed to vote for anyone on the grid?

DavidColthard II - October 25, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
DC is it? <grrr>

I agree. For all the 'best' 'worst' etc awards, all teams/drivers/tracks etc ought to be there. Otherwise we're just voting on the poll-setter's opinion to be honest. What if someone thought that 'worst' could relate to attitude to the team and wanted to vote for Alonso?

Winckelhock or Nakajima.

Sounds slightly stupid given that neither really had that much track time or experience (and Winckelhock barely had any time in the Spyker and actually led the Euro GP) but both were a long, long way behind their team mates. Winckelhock for example, was over a second and a half slower than Sutil in the quali session.

I had thought of giving it to Wurz but he has put in a handful of very respectable drives this year so eventually plumped for Albers.

Though to be honest I don't really know why we have this poll. I know it's unlikely the drivers are going to be reading it, but it's still disrespectful.

I disagree. I know this may lead to a long-winded debate which I don't particularly feel like right now, but I can't let a comment like that pass without having my take on it.

Compared to the others on the list Ralf has been an awful lot closer to his team mate over the course of the season. I don't know what the exact race stats are for Toyota but I imagine they're pretty close. Goping on points, it was only 8-5 to Trulli eventually. The quali stats are less impressive, but when you consider Trulli has been called the best single-lap artist in the paddock, albeit last year, that is not too much to be ashamed of.

Nakajima set the 5th fastest lap of the race in Brazil and finished 10th. Not bad at all for his first race, better than Wurz would have done.

How can you possibly know that?

Also, Nakajima ran over his own mechanics. Regardless of how slow he may be, Wurz wouldn't do that. <roflmao>

safc_fan89 - October 26, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
Presumably because he was driving so slow in the pitlane as well as on track, that that would never be an issue.

You can make a guess on whether Wurz would have set 5th best time or not after looking at the last 16 races. Most of the time he's been nowhere near Rosberg. Mind you, there's little point setting the 5th best time if you finish 6 places behind your teammate.
