In addition to unveiling the new 2010 F10 Formula 1 car, Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo used this morning's press conference to briefly announce a hybrid version of the company's 599 GTB Fiorano would be shown at the 2010 Geneva motor show.

"We're constructing cars with an enormous [amount] of innovative technology," di Montezemolo said. "We want F1 to explorer and anticipate the great technologies for the cars of the future."

This seems to be somewhat true, as a kinetic energy recovery system -- a mild hybrid system of sorts --was mandated on F1 cars for the 2009 season. That said, we'd expect the 599 hybrid to be a different beast. Patents filed by Ferrari this past summer hint at an all-wheel-drive hybrid, with the front wheels powered by electric motors when extra grip is needed.

Ferrari has yet to issue any further information regarding the 599 Hybrid, but stay with Automobile Magazine for the latest news on the hybrid and other unveilings at the 2010 Geneva motor show.

I get some mild stick from some tree huggers at work for driving a gas guzzler, it would be sweet to turn up with this and say, "OK I've finally converted, I've bought an HYBRID" angel.gif

I seem to remember Ferrari doing a technical exercise a couple of years ago and show cased an experimental car that could do 200MPH but only put out 100g/km of CO2. I think it was featured in autocar magazine.
